Whether you are looking to get your Concealed Carry Permit or simply interested in learning the Virginia laws regarding self-defense or carrying a firearm, this class is for you.

The class is open to both VA residents and Non-Residents.

In this 2 hour course we will cover everything (and then some) that is required to allow you to get your permit. We will cover the importance of firearm safety, situational awareness, personal and home defense, the basic nomenclature and operation of handguns, where you can and can’t carry your firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as, the Virginia laws on self-defense and the use of deadly force.

The course is a mix of lecture, visual presentations, group discussion, personal anecdotes, testimonials, video presentations, and question/answer sessions.

[one_second]

[accordion_item title=”What do I need to bring?”]

Everything you need will be provided in class. All you are required to bring is your current and valid driver’s license or government issued identification.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”Do I need to bring a firearm?”]

No, you do not need to own or bring a firearm.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”Do I need to know how to shoot?”]
No, you do not need a familiarity with firearms prior to attending this course.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”Will we shoot during class?”]
No, for the standard Virginia Permit shooting/qualifying is not required. However, we do offer and recommend an optional live fire module (which is required for the Florida permit). We also have other course offerings which include range time on our simulator or live fire for additional instruction.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”Will I walk away with my permit?”]
No, you will receive your training certificate (good for your lifetime) that satisfies all of the requirements to receive a Virginia concealed handgun permit and explicit directions on how to proceed. Virginia is a “Shall Issue” state and if you have a clean record you will receive your
permit within a few weeks. By law, it can take no longer than 45 days.

[/accordion_item]

[/one_second]

[accordion_item title=”Do I need to attend this class if I’m a Veteran?”]
The short answer is no. Concealed permits are issued by the judge in your County of residence. As long as you have your military ID, DD214, or other identifying paperwork showing military experience with handguns, most judges will issue you a permit without any additional training. However, we recommend our class anyway as you may not be familiar with many of the laws governing Virginia concealed carry.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”What if I’m just stationed in Virginia?”]
You qualify!! Take your orders to the courthouse and you can apply for a Virginia Resident concealed permit.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”What if I have an expired permit?”]
You will need to re-apply. No additional coursework is required, as long as you have your original training certificate. If you do not have your certificate you will have to take another class.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”How many states can I carry in with my Virginia permit?”]
This is subject to constant updates due to ever changing laws however; the Virginia resident concealed permit is currently recognized by the states shown in the map above on this page.

[/accordion_item]

[accordion_item title=”What if I’m not a Virginia resident?”]
Our class qualifies you for a Virginia non-resident permit.

[tab title=”The Legal Use of Firearms for Self-Defense”]

The Legal Use of Firearms for Self-Defense

This course teaches Virginia’s legal limits on the use of deadly force in self-defense situations, with a particular focus on the use of firearms.  It will give you a working knowledge of the legal boundaries between a justifiable self-defense shooting and a shooting that will expose you to criminal prosecution and civil damages liability.  If you live or work in Virginia and rely on firearms for self-defense, this course will give you a practical set of guidelines and steps you can take to maximize your chances of winning (and financially surviving) the legal battle that inevitably follows a self-defense shooting.

The course is presented in a three hour session with a short break between Parts I and II.  In Part I, we explain in everyday terms Virginia’s boundaries between lawful and unlawful defensive shootings.  Our presentation is highlighted and illustrated with useful, practical examples involving real-life situations.  We cover street confrontations, home invasions and the Castle Doctrine, Virginia’s stand your ground principle, and defending others.  We also cover Virginia’s legal rules relating to threat duration and proportionality of response.  The latter two subjects are perhaps the most troublesome areas of Virginia self-defense law, and you need to understand them well if you rely on firearms for self-defense.  We also address whether you can still rely on prevention of an atrocious felony in Virginia to justify the use of deadly force.

In Part II, we describe the legal battle that follows on the heels of almost every self-defense shooting.  We explain each step in the post-shooting legal process and give you a real understanding of how the system works.  We teach you how to deal with the critical time just after a self-defense shooting, including 911 calls, pre-arrest interaction with the police, when and how to assert your Fifth Amendment rights, and what follows after an arrest.  What you do in these circumstances will have a huge effect on how the legal system will treat you.  We provide you with practical steps you should take and tools you will need to (i) protect your legal rights and (ii) help you (and your counsel) extricate you from the legal system with the least amount of difficulty.  We will also give you useful information about how you can obtain the financial resources you will need in the event of a protracted legal battle.

The course is taught by Steve Sulzer, co-founder of Sulzer Green Taylor PLLC in Washington, D.C.  Steve is a highly-respected attorney with 34 years of legal experience and special expertise in the law of self-defense in Virginia.  Steve is also an NRA-certified pistol instructor, has held a Virginia concealed carry permit since the late 1990s, and has ten years of competitive shooting experience.

[tab title=”AK-47 Build Class”]

AK-47 Build Class

It seems everyone is building AR-15s these days, but wouldn’t it be fun to branch out and build your very own AK-47? This is a chance of a lifetime to learn about AK pattern rifles by getting your hands dirty and building one yourself!

No tools are required to take this class; everything needed to build YOUR AK Rifle will be provided! The only prerequisite for this class is a basic knowledge of firearms and firearm safety.

We will be building AK rifles in 7.62 caliber. These rifles will be assembled (by you) from de-milled AK-47 parts kits, new US-made receivers, new US-made barrels, and all required US parts for 922r compliance. The parts kits are mostly numbers-matching, except for the front trunnion. All journals are measured, as well as the parts to be pressed, to make sure the fit is correct. The headspace has been checked and set with a GO gauge, then with a NO-GO gauge. After setting the headspace, the barrel pin hole has been drilled and reamed for the new barrel pin. The pin will be pressed most of the way through so it can be removed during the build process to install rivets. The rear sight, gas block, and front sight will come pressed on and pinned to the brand new US-made barrel. A special fixture is used to make sure each piece fits correctly, and to ensure proper alignment on the barrel.

This is a standard AK-47 rifle build; only bolt-on accessories for customization can be fitted during the build, and any accessorizing requiring extra machining cannot be achieved during the limited time frame of this class.

This is not a leisurely-paced class, but each step in the process will be explained and supervised. By the end of day, you will have a fully assembled AK-47 rifle, built by YOU! You can complete the Federal 4473 and Virginia paperwork and leave with rifle in hand, or for non-residents, you may have your rifle shipped to an FFL of your choosing, for transfer to you (please research state and local laws in your location). We have all the necessary licenses to do this legally (FFL, Manufacturing, etc.). These will be 100% legal by all Federal and Virginia state laws, 922r compliant, serialized firearms when finished.

Payment in full is required for registration and placement in the class. When filling out the registration form please include a contact phone number and we will get in touch with you to complete the payment for the class registration. Unfortunately we cannot use our online credit card processor for this transaction, and must run this transaction manually through our offline credit card processor.

For any questions, contact us at tactical@valador.com. Please reference the AK Build Class in the subject line.
